DO I nEED a sPORTS mASSAGE?

The therapeutic benefits of sports massage are advantageous following surgery, in conjunction with physiotherapy, osteopathy, or chiropractic care. Acting as an additional aid in your recovery proses.

Those who participate in sports might incorporate sports massages into their training regimen on a regular basis. Sports massage has also been shown to help improve athletic performance.

Not only athletes can benefit from sports massages. Anyone who requires soft tissue mobilization can benefit from receiving a sports massage.

Sports massage is frequently used to treat muscular skeletal injuries as well as to improve muscle condition and flexibility. Sports massage employs a wide range of techniques that are applied and based on individual needs to compliment training programs and treat a variety of conditions.

SPORTS MASSAGE BENEFITS

Reduced delayed onset muscle soreness. If the blood supply is insufficient to meet the demands for oxygen, glycolysis can help, albeit inefficiently, and lactic acid is formed. Following exercise, a sports massage will be performed to flush out the waste products produced by exercise.

Decreased pain. Sports massage relieves muscle tension, spasm and stiffness which all contribute to feeling pain. Pain impulses run towards the spinal cord and up to the brain. The touch of massage interferes with pain signals by sending other signals along the same nerves. Massage also stimulates morphine-like substances that the body can self manufacture that override pain sensations.

Increase muscle flexibility.  Athletes and non-athletes alike can benefit from flexibility. Massage can aid in flexibility maintenance by increasing blood circulation and stretching tissue fibers.

Improved recovery. A sports massage also accelerates healing by increasing blood circulation. Increased blood circulation delivers oxygen and nutrients to an area and aids in tissue repair.

Maximize Performance. Receiving a sports massage improves people's participation in sports by allowing them to train more frequently, resulting in higher levels of performance.

Prevents Injury. Injury prevention is critical for both exercisers and people going about their daily lives. Sports massage can help relieve muscle tension and restore muscle balance. A consistent buildup of muscle tension can put strain on the joints and soft tissues.

PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF SPORTS MASSAGE

There are numerous physiological effects that occur during a sports massage.

Enhanced venous return. Increased venous return can be used to reduce venostasis and edema by increasing blood flow to a site of injury.

Temperature Increase.   Temperature raises the metabolic rate, which improves tissue condition. Temperature also improves tissue flexibility, including muscle fibers, fascia tissue, ligaments, and tendons. Warm muscles contract more efficiently, making them less prone to strains and sprains.

Enhanced lymphatic drainage. Waste products such as lactic acid and pyruvic acid accumulate within the muscle after exercise, causing pain and stiffness. The increased amount of acids in the muscles also impedes muscle recovery. Massage removes toxins from the muscles, reducing pain and stiffness and hastening muscle recovery. Increased recovery allows people to train more, which raises performance standards.

Enhanced tissue elasticity. Muscle bundles are stretched and separated, increasing flexibility and extensibility. Increased tissue elasticity improves performance while decreasing the risk of injury.

Breakdown of adhesions. Deep friction techniques of a sports massage will loosen and free the tight soft tissue structures. Creating more movement within muscle tissues allowing muscles, ligaments and tendons to function normally.

Scar tissue degrades. Scar tissue is formed between damaged tissues as part of the healing process in soft tissues. Scar tissue forms tight, inflexible tissue that obstructs normal muscle and ligament movement. Deep massage techniques can help break down scar tissue and restore movement by breaking it down or improving its flexibility.

Improved relaxation. The increased temperature in the tissue promotes relaxation. The rapid removal of waste products from the muscles will prevent the development of pain and stiffness. Relaxation is promoted by specific sports massage techniques. The nervous system is soothed by slow effleurage techniques.

In summary, a sports massage is frequently used to treat muscular skeletal injuries as well as to improve muscle condition and flexibility. Sports massage employs a wide range of techniques that are applied and based on individual needs. A sports massage can be used before or after an event, as part of a training program, or to treat tight muscles. A sports massage is a beneficial treatment that can help treat and reduce a variety of conditions. We can help reduce pain, increase muscle flexibility, improve recovery after injury, maximize performance, and prevent injuries by receiving a sports massage.
